Abstract:
Among the world’s regions, Africa was the fastest growing in terms of international tourist arrivals in 2006. The available data is still limited but, including estimates for those countries which have not yet reported their full-year figures, arrivals rose by an estimated 11% to 41 million and international tourism receipts rose by 11%, expressed in local currencies, at constant prices, to US$ 25 billion.
Description:
This report has been prepared by the World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO’s) Market
Trends, Trade and Competitiveness Section. Chapters I and II, Highlights and Quantitative Analysis of Tourism Performance, were drafted by members of The Travel Business Partnership, led by UNWTO Consultant Nancy Cockerell. UNWTO’s Regional
Representation for Africa also made a valuable contribution, as did the organization’s Panel of Experts from Africa, which monitors tourism trends and developments on a regular basis for the three times yearly UNWTO World Tourism Barometer.
